Two major happenings in the last two weeks:
We said goodbye to yet another family of friends, leaving us with only one that we get to see with any regularity! Hopefully in the Fall we will be able to connect with other homeschool and church families again, though as we are still (!!) under lockdown that is not a given. We bent the rules a smidgen and met on a secluded beach for a goodbye time last Sunday. The girls really enjoyed the chance to rock climb with this friend who isn't afraid of their challenges :) Aiden surprisingly hung out on his own in the water and sand for a lot of the time. Mom ad the girls showed up at their place yesterday and took all the things they had not yet found new homes for. It was way more than anyone anticipated, so it was very serendipitous that a kind neighbour chatted with Mom just as they were leaving and offered her car. It took the car, the bike buggy, and some very full backpacks to get it all home! And it took the rest of the day to sort through it all for things to keep and what to donate onwards.
Dad had promised mom a date back in May, but then suggested they wait until lockdown was over... but since it is still in place and without a foreseeable end, he decided to make the best date possible without all the usual possibilities. So, a late morning hour or two on our local beach - deserted on Monday morning, a rare sight! - where they found a few things to show (live urchins and not quite dead yet coral) and a few to bring home (lots of windowpane oyster shells) and rested under the tree on a mat feasting on a mini meringue pie and coconut water. Dad had ordered food in so they came home to real beef burgers and fresh durian (something Mom discovered she loves this summer!). Overall a fantastic date for not having much leeway for any real outings.
And this is what all the windowpane oyster shells became. It gives a lovely delicate tinkling song in the wind.
