February Storm

This disappointing winter
Was just saving it up
And dumped it all at once -
Broke a 100 year record for the most snow in one day

So our week was not normal
As we spent as much time outside
As we did inside -
A very nice change indeed!

 An unexpected the-day-after cancellation
Freed a morning for the woods
Anxious to visit our house
We plowed our own trail in

Aiden on a sled
(pulled by out-of-breath Mommy)
Not daring to attempt walking
in the snow easily to his shoulders!
 What hard work to walk!
And a yet again realization
that our kids are yet learning
how even to walk in snow.
Snow angels in 2 feet of fresh fluffy snow?
What a fantastic bemused surprised look
When they plopped in so deep...
When she jumped off the rock in up to her neck...
So glad it quickly turned to smiles!

We came home rather quickly
Snow had made its way inside
burning ankles, wrists, chins
trickling ice water down backs
seeping through pants.

But outdoor play was repeated
two more times
that day! Yay!

What's Happening?

The big boy family baby
Apparently always bored
Asks for jobs incessantly
But picks the ones he wants to do.
Preparing food tops the list
A good job he'll do too.

When sunny Spring
February brings
The clear call
of bright blue sunny skies
wins over all
 A trek to "the woods"
Tree wacking
rock climbing
house building
 imagination fun
With a promise to return
And soon

Life interrupted
Plans foiled
The next glorious sunny day
Mommy spent in hospital
Her appendix made its presence known
That was quickly rectified
And now she's home without it.

Wednesday she felt horrible
Thursday mostly fine
A Doctor visit - to finally have a family doctor
An off-hand comment there
And a vigilant doctor
Surprised her with recommending a trip to the ER

Thursday finished
Kids home from AWANA
tucked in bed
Mom off to the hospital
Armed with sewing and books
for the long wait

Midnight comes and goes
Blood taken
Sewing needle broken
Eyes droopy

Friday morning super early
IV started
CT Scan ordered and done
Appendix blamed
Phone calls and Facebook
Flurry of activity for admittance
and surgery preparation
And the last dreary waiting

Friday evening
Family comes to call
Four on the bed
and the Mommy said
"No More!"
Lots of talking
Sharing the day's stories
Tears and sadness
when mommy can't come home yet

Saturday morning
feeling bright and sunny
another long wait
for her ride home
But O so welcome!
