Yesterday we were blessed with a special afternoon. A friend that the girls made taking Ultimate Frisbee at Dalat led to our families connecting in a special way as they have a boy Aiden's age and a girl that fits right in with ours. So they invited us to spend the day with them learning of a few places in Penang not usually discovered.
So we had lunch at a dog cafe... guess who was thrilled with that idea?! Apparently, though, we managed to get pictures at the very moment faces don't show how pleased they were! The food was really good too. If it were closer to us, we might visit more often - even Dad pretty well with asthma being in a room full of dogs. After that, we went to the Botanical Garden. We did a simple stroll around the main path... well, the adults did. The kids must have doubled the distance with all their side tracking and doubling back!

The first thing discovered was the cannon ball trees. Aiden went bug-eyed, "Cannon balls grow on trees!!?!!"
No, but they were fun to discover: hard shelled, just-the-right-sized for smashing... But they're smelly :(

We found a lot of places we'd like to explore more fully another day, and enjoyed discovering a number of rain forest beauties big and small and tiny.
We definitely have to go back some time when we don't have to to leave for Chinese classes as there are a number of trails to explore, beautiful places to enjoys, and myriads of monkeys (so we're told - we didn't really get to see many in the middle of the afternoon).
